NKU tapped Corbitt Graphics to design a new soccer suite dedicated to Jeanna Gottelman Funk. Jeanna played soccer at NKU from 2004-06, and again in 2010. The gap in years was due to Jeanna’s first bout with glioblastoma, brain cancer.
Despite this, her determination and work ethic prevailed such that she returned to earn her degree and finish her final soccer season. Coach Bob Sheehan knew Jeanna well. “Jeanna is truly an inspiration. There is much more to Jeanna as she was highly intelligent, kind, caring, loved to laugh, enjoyed life, and exemplified what it meant to be a Norse and a studentathlete.”
Unfortunately, Jeanna’s brain cancer returned in 2016, and she lost her battle against it on July 15, 2020, at the young age of 35. Glioblastoma life expectancy prognosis is 15 months; Jeanna’s fight was so strong that she lasted nearly 15 years after her initial diagnosis.
This suite is dedicated to remember Jeanna’s grit, and her passion for winning in soccer, and in life. It is to inspire current, and future NKU Norse that no matter the obstacles, keep fighting.
